Ryan Seacrest will take over as âWheel of Fortuneâ host: âIâm truly humbledâ
Ryan Seacrest, the longtime host of “American Idol” and “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” will add another iconic gig to his growing resumé when he replaces Pat Sajak as host of “Wheel of Fortune.”
Seacrest will take over the role as host of the popular syndicated game show beginning with the 2024-25 season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show’s official Facebook page posted, “It’s official! Starting in 2024 Ryan Seacrest will take the stage as the new host of Wheel of Fortune. We’re so excited – Welcome Ryan!”
THR says “Wheel of Fortune” averaged about 9 million daily viewers during the 2022-23 season. Cohost Vanna White has a year remaining on her current contract. Read the full THR article.
“I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,” Seacrest said in a statement he tweeted Tuesday afternoon. “I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them.
“Pat, I love the way you’ve always celebrated the contestants and made viewers at home feel at ease. I look forward to learning everything I can from you during this transition. Many people probably don’t know this but one of my first jobs was hosting a little game show called ‘Click’ for Merv Griffin 25 years ago so this is truly a full circle moment for me and I’m grateful to Sony for the opportunity. I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White.”
Sajak will end his run after the 41st season ends, he tweeted earlier this month.
“Well, the time has come,” Sajak wrote. “I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”
Cohost Vanna White chimed in shortly after her longtime colleague made the announcement, tweeting, “When we started @WheelofFortune who could have imagined we’d still be at it 41 seasons later? I couldn’t be happier to have shared the stage with you for all these years with one more to come. Cheers to you, @patsajak!”
Sajak, 76, has presided over the game show, which features contestants guessing letters to try to fill out words and phrases to win money and prizes, since 1981. He took over duties from Chuck Woolery, who was the show’s first host when it debuted in 1975.
